The Governor of the Bank Of England (BoE), Mark Carney raised the alarm bells over automation in his speech at Liverpool’s John Moore University earlier this week, describing the ‘machine age’ as one that will ‘mercilessly’ destroy jobs. He warned of 15 million jobs being replaced by automation – around half of the UK workforce.
Our latest in-depth article examines that claim and considers:-
- The inevitability of AI – a 300% increase in investment is expected in 2017.
- Is this apocalyptic vision feasible? 85% of employers believe AI will create more jobs than it destroys.
- The reluctance of HR and UK employers to invest in training or digital adoption, both of which are necessary to respond to the challenges of AI in the workplace.
