There's a debate raging in cybersphere about whether social media is the new cover letter, i.e. should we stop sending cover letters in lieu of creating a more comprehensive social media personal brand.

Well, consider this ... you follow up a job opening on Twitter with a link to a personalised web site highlighting your talents. Sounds too futuristic? It's not, in fact it is happening now. In David's article he explains how Jessica linked to Matthew who responded to her tweet about a public affairs job.
I'm not sure if Matthew actually got the job, but it certainly is food for thought.
